....we played Rugby for P-day with the zone on the beach!
for the package? (I asked him what he needed when I sent an Easter
package) mm... i would like some more socks. i'm sorry but socks
just disappear and i have a bunch of those bamboo ones that have
holes in them. Clemence gave me one pair of his missionary mall
socks, they were really nice and thick yet breathable. so maybe a
couple pairs of them. other than that i can't think of anything. AH i
know. my ipod. my mp3 player that i bought is just falling apart. the
only thing i can trust is my ipod. so if you could send me that with
the cable i would really appreciate it (kelsi has it... i believe). that
way i can take some of the music i have on it and use it too (don't worry
i won't listen to the other stuff, i'll just back it up because i don't
have a back up of it) just send it how it is and wrap it up really
well because when the packages get to me there's usually holes in
them... smashed... and well, just beaten to death. another thing that i would
like is to get more letters from everyone. i will probably not be writing
as many emails and writing more letters. so i would love to get
letters from all my friends and family!
i'm glad you got my package and that you didn't get mad at dad's gift. i
hope you were able to laugh. it's just how Chileans are. i'm not sure
why... but that's just a little taste of their Indian culture here.
they make all kinds of stuff like those plaques and figurines. some of it's
really cool, but i decided anything made here WILL fall apart. like my
pants that i bought! the seam is already ripping... oh well. life goes
on! And, you're right mom, we all have trials, but we can overcome
them. it all depends on how our attitude is. i know that Allie will
have a good attitude, which means we need to have one too. it's so hard
to have a good attitude when everyone else around you is down. so we
all need to pray for good attitudes :)
well... life here in Lota is up and down. literally... these hills are
KILLING me! luckily i didn't get sent here in the summer... i would have
died! but i really like the people here. i love Lota... to be honest. as
dirty and trashy as it is, it's got great people. (literally trashy too :).
it seems like everyone here thinks that the ground is the trash can.)
and the smell.... oh goodness. i'm still trying to get over it. we live
right next to the fish plant..or whatever it is. and it is just rancid!
luckily, once we leave the apartment it's a good ten minute walk to our
sector. once we get to our sector the smell goes away. as for the
investigators... i have never met people like the ones we are teaching
right now! they are so prepared and ready for the gospel. the Lord has
really prepared them! this last zone meeting they challenged us to
challenge the people to baptism at least 5 times a week... to help them get
over the fear of challenging... even if they say no, because when they say
"no", that's when we will discover their doubts and then we can testify. we
met the goal of five challenges and we now have 4 baptismal dates!!!!!
we have Natalia for the ninth. she is awesome. apparently the
missionaries almost let her go last cambio, then she showed up to
church. she said she wanted to get baptized... she just needed to stop
smoking, so we are working on that right now. then we have Gissela, a
Bolivian, who is so prepared. she has great questions and always asks
"what else do you need to teach me so i can get baptized?" that's music
to our ears! she is set for the 16th. then we have a couple, Edgar and
Natali. Natali is 100 percent ready, Edgar is 75 percent, but they
both accepted. they just need to get married on the 16th and then they
will be baptized the 23rd. they are a great couple. very giving and happy!
it's great! we also have some other "perspectives" that we found this last week
that are great! Elder Williams has really been helping me work harder. not
that i was lazy before... but it's different being with all older comps
who are slowly "dying" in the mission and then to get with one that has less
than six months! it's great! and for our efforts i feel like we
are getting blessed.
i love how you told me about how God gives us an extra dose of trials
when things are going good to help us grow. it's true. i'm waiting for my "dose".
there is one "trial"...an elder in our zone. i don't know why, but he blew up at
me for taking his hymnal and letting our investigator use it. it sounds
really immature and i don't know why he blew up at me... i kept my cool,
by the way. but it was just rotting in my brain all day because he
wouldn't even talk to me! aaaaah frustration. the reason why it bugs me
so bad is the following;... he looks like a certain person that works for
dad. he looks EXACTLY like him and talks EXACTLY LIKE HIM... everything
EXACTLY LIKE HIM. i don't know... i think it was the Lord testing me. i
hope i passed. i'm over it.. i just don't think he is...

here are some pictures of Lota... if you can look any direction and there is
a hill, that's our area.... fun stuff... eh? the branch is split up into
three sectors so we have six missionaries in the branch. there is a
huge St. Bernard that was abandoned and this guy took it off the street
last month. the picture of food is Pichanga....they're amazing!
