Email #73...Monday, July 25th, 2011

what an eventful 24th... eh? well, no fireworks went off here.. lame! but
what a week... on Tuesday morning i headed off to Concepcion to pick
up my "kid". we got to the house of President Martinez and couldn't meet
the new missionaries just yet. he put us in another room and we were able
to talk and converse with our new president...which was great. he is such a
wonderful, inspired and excited man! there is a new program for
training new missionaries, so he gave us a training session on that.
after a couple hours, he pulled us out and called us to our new
companions. i am now with Elder Call from Roy Utah. he is such a stud!
a really great kid... i really forgot how much Spanish we didn't know
coming into the mission though. ha! it is absolutely crazy how fast we
learn the language! you talk about miracles mom, and this is one of
them... the gift of tongues. in just this past week, i have seen his
Spanish get better and better every day. it's such a cool thing to see.
he learns really fast and will be talking fluently in no time. he was
really excited last night, that while i was taking numbers from my
district, he was having a conversation with a family. this is quite an
experience... i'm not going to lie, its definitely tough. it's a ton of
work for me, making sure he is enjoying every minute and not feeling
like going home from how frustrating learning a new language is. but...
it is enjoyable work. i can tell whatever i do, he does too, so it
keeps me on my feet always to not make a mistake. let's just say that
this last week has been very exhausting but fulfilling!

we had such a great experience this last week. we started right off on
Thursday knocking doors. (side note, the week before, there was a kid
playing basketball, i went and talked and played with him. he was a
good, humble thirteen year old and we asked if we could come by his
house. he then gave us directions and we said we would come by next
week.) so me and Call were knocking doors on this random street and we
get to a door, a man answers and just says come in. i was thinking to
my self," that's a little weird" , but we entered anyway. come to find out,
it is where that kid lived! without even "trying" we arrived at his
house. we started talking to the whole family... getting to know them, and
the mom says (to her son), "oh these are the guys you met last week." and
then proceeded to say that he wanted to be a missionary too! after more
talking we found out that his mom is a member... inactive for about 13
years. we taught them a little something and then invited them to
church. the mom was kind of hesitante, but told her son that he had to
go. so... we stop by Sunday morning to pick him up and the mom comes too!
she started off not remembering anything about the church, but then
things started to click. in the investigator and recent convert class,
i planned on teaching about temples, because a family had some doubts
about it. that family didn't show, so i hesitated teaching the lesson.
i did it anyway, and the mom (Rosa) started remembering everything! all
the goals she had made, how she had felt when she did baptisms for the
dead and everything. she said that she had made a goal at seventeen
that she would get married and sealed in the temple. well... she, before
going to church yesterday, had set a goal with her boyfriend to get
married this year. so everything is just falling into place. needless to
say, it was a great spiritual experience for all. these are the moments
that i love on the mission! i am so grateful for the Holy Ghost and
how it helps us in our lives and how the Lord works in mysterious
ways.. well, i won't tell you my other story because this keyboard
sucks! but i love you all and hope you ave a great week!

My new companion.... Elder Call

and....the mouse we caught last week!
