muchas gracias for the package mom! it´s really not a big deal. you don´t need to send anymore!my comp is Elder Travis Rust. he´s from Las Vegas. we are getting along better this week. i´m just really trying to be as optimistic as i can… and the Lord helps me a lot as well…He is with me. i feel His love (thanks to everyone’s prayers!), whether its just from good feelings or through the members of the ward.
The Chileans are great. i talk to them about my struggling with Spanish, and the fact that i don’t say much when i´m at there house. i just smile and show my pictures of my family. they absolutely love that! they say we could be in movies. but they really do show love. at the end of visits if i don´t say the prayer, which a lot of the time i do, they always pray for me and my Spanish and our family. so you are praying for me, and the people here are praying for you! it´s great!
Oh, and we had a baptism this week. Gerardo! we asked him who he wanted to baptize him. guess who he said? ELDER JACKSON! yeah crazy! i yelled and gave him a hug! it was great. i didn´t get nervous until i got into the font and then i stumbled with his name. everyone here has a mile long name! Gerardo Enrique Rodriguez Liencura… it´s a mouthful! it was such a great day for him and for me! he´s a stud. it was really cool to experience that.
the lunches here are always a surprise. its usually the same ole rice or potatoes, chicken or hot dogs, and always a HUGE plate full ha. However, i had two amazing lunches. HAMBURGERS! they were so good. at one house i had three burgers and a completo which is a glorified hot dog. it was great! most of the members ask me what i want to eat, but i don´t know what they have so it´s “just whatever”. they like to make spaghetti or lasagna a lot too. oh i want you guys to try this… just humor me. for dinner make a huge thing of rice, a huge bowl of vegetables, and a couple hot dogs per plate. then for your salad, you have a big plate of sliced tomatoes, and in another bowl a huge head of nasty looking lettuce with tons of lemon juice and oil. and then eat it all. it´s really not that bad and it sure fills you up.
i went on splits last night with the bishop. he´s awesome even though there’s a huge language barrier. we just visited some inactives. i don´t know if i told you this but about 85 percent of the members are in active in Chile. quite a bit. After the visits we were waiting for my comp and Pedro to get back and i was talking about my family, because i know quite a bit of vocabulary about the family. i showed him a picture and he recognized Brock…he served with Brock! it is such a small world.... he only had good things to say about him too.
ok so about the phone call. as soon as you get this email, email me back on what days you work this week and next. i will keep checking my email. i got on facebook just to see if berto or one of my sisters were on just in case i could get a hold of them to figure something out. so don’t worry about me getting on facebook…i didn´t even look at anything else. don´t fret. but i will probably call you this week once i figure out when you’re not working. just keep your cell phone on you at all times. i´ll call you for just a couple minutes to see when would be the best time to call. i don´t have to call on Mother’s day but i would probably be able to do it after 6 your time. when i call you, i´ll figure out the time difference. Could you do one thing for me? find the area code for Chile, i don´t know if its all the same, but i´m in Cautin Chile or Concepcion Chile or Temuco Chile. Cautin is where i live. but we are really close to Temuco. but yeah, you will be getting a phone call from me this week so be ready! if you don´t answer i´ll call dad or i´ll see if one of my sisters is on facebook. oh tell kim to check her email. the bishop wanted me to say hi to Brock for him.
