hola hola!
hello everyone! what a week. i’m not going to lie, i have had my ups and downs. don’t get me wrong… having a Latino companion is really great for learning Spanish, but to be honest, they are very hard to live with. They just live differently. my companion likes to play mind games and is very good at it. i won’t go in to detail, but please help me and pray for a companion that will set a better example for me. (mom don’t worry, he’s not doing anything horrible, just not helping with the spirituality of the companionship.) i just would really like a companion that sets a good example for me. one that i can learn the good things from, instead of learning what not to do. this month is the Mundial (soccer superbowl) which means everyone is all about “futbol”, including my companion. he went on “splits” two times this week to “teach”… which means to watch a game. but it was good for me ... it meant that i went on splits with Elder Gillmore again. every time i go with him we always have a good teaching or contacting experience… so it was a blessing in a way.
also this week we got a reference from a recent convert, who is awesome. we went to this “ reference’s” house, her name is Marisol. what an amazing woman... she has been through a lot! her husband left her years ago and they didn’t have any kids. after the earthquake, two girls were without a house, so she had them stay with her. now she’s not living alone but… the girls are always gone. needless to say, she has had major depression and just feels alone. we had a great teaching experience with her. she really opened up to us and told about her life. we invited her to read a little from the Book of Mormon and pray about it. she did it! this doesn’t happen a ton in Chile. she is a child of God that was really prepared for us. the problem is, she doesn’t live in our sector. However, my companion is a district leader, so we still stop by every once in a while. after the first visit, we came back with the sister missionaries in that area and made her dinner. we let her know that she is not alone and now she has “4 children” and a loving ward full of brothers and sisters. we then taught her the first lesson after cooking dinner… and the spirit was so strong. it was really amazing to see a change in her attitude just in this week! i know that she is ready for baptism and the sisters are going to set the date soon. it was such a wonderful experience!
winter is also here, which means rain every day. and when it rains... IT RAINS! not the whimpy stuff back in Utah. its real rain. now this is not so good for us. the people we were teaching weren’t progressing so we had to let them go. this means we have almost no appointments. which means we are outside practically all day. the only good thing is… the people usually feel bad for us and let us in. this week that really didn’t happen, but hopefully soon it will! ha. but one night we were knocking doors and after getting shut down after about 20 houses we came to the next one and hollered halo! (that's what you do here in Chile) a guy came out and said “no speak Spanish, speak English”… oooh boy, i got him! i said great! so do i! he definitely didn’t want anything to do with us but he came out to talk. he is Danish, works for the coast guard in Iceland and has a Chilean wife. wow. how that happened i’m not sure. he said he met her in a barber shop but i didn’t catch where. anyways we talked a little more, gained confidence, but he still didn’t want anything to do with us. sorry that wasn’t spiritual… it lightened up the mood a little though. we might try him again a little later.
this last Sunday was really great too. it was just what i needed. we had the opportunity to have President Swenson come to our ward. he said a few things in sacrament that i really needed to hear. then in our gospel principles class with our recent converts we had a great lesson about the creation. it only lasted 10 minutes and then turned into a testimony meeting. president asked them how they got to know the church. oh man was the spirit so strong. to hear their stories and here what the church did for them really made me realize that there are people who God has prepared for us. the reason i say that is because, this sector is one of the hardest. everyone who gets called here is scared to come. but to hear their strong testimonies and to know that they were from the SAN PEDRO SECTOR really helped me have more hope and faith. it was such a great Sunday! just what i needed to hear. there are people out there that the lord has prepared. we just need to work as hard as we can to find them. but now i have to speak next week! i need to figure out something to speak on. it is just gonna be hard because i can’t just ramble on in Spanish like i could in English, but i know that the lord will help me.
these were my adventures this week. i hope all is well at home. miss you tons! and i finally have a mattress! yeah! i can sleep!
ok i would like the Ensign in English... that would be nice! but if it is too expensive don’t worry about it. at least the conference ones? and boots... i need a good pair of boots. if it’s not way expensive you could send me some. i looked today and for a good pair of water proof nice looking dress boots its about 100 American dollars… so i don’t know what to do. i just don’t want my feet to be wet all the time. so if you could please email me this week to help me make a decision…
