Alan...My first baptism in Talcahuano...and his family
It’s so crazy to hear what’s going on in Utah! sometimes i think that time pauses, but every week has something new. I’m glad to hear you are doing alright mom. please tell me if something is wrong. And as for the fruit here…it’s good mom. we alllllways have avocados… which i love… always have mandarin oranges and oranges and bananas. Always! other fruit… not so much. but the fruit is delicious that we do have.
well I’m now in my new sector! It’s called bio bio in the zone Talcahuano. but the area is really called Hualpen, if you want to google earth it. we live on a street called Berlin, right across the street from the church. i absolutely love this place! it is the complete opposite from San Pedro. doing contacts is so fun. there are always so many people out in the street and they are almost always so friendly. It’s so fun! and the ward is great! they function like a ward in the states! other wards here are just different. but i really feel like I’m in the states sometimes! the bishop is awesome. the ward as a whole is awesome… they were so welcoming to me. it was so nice to get a warm welcoming…after coming from a not so warm sector. Don’t get me wrong… i learned to love the people in San Pedro, but it was just easier to adjust here. the ward helps so much with the missionaries. Always… always giving references! It’s awesome and makes our work so much more enjoyable and effective.
we had a baptism! Whoa… i know that’s kinda weird. It was great though! his name is Alan… he comes from a part member family and he’s nine years old. it was great to be at a baptism again, especially with it being my first week here. when we got to the baptism, my companion told me, “oh yeah…you get to conduct!” uhhhh... “ok” i said… ha ha. so i conducted a baptism! my first time! and i don’t think i did that bad… the baptism was great and there was a great spirit there.
dad this one’s for you.. we were doing contacts and we were trying to figure out where to do them. all the streets here are names of countries and cities. guess where we went? we contacted the street Finlandia! and got to the corner of Finlandia and Helsinki and guess what? we found an investigator. she is so receptive and we already talked to her about baptism. She’s practically ready! how sweet is that? she even has a friend in the ward that’s a member…it’s awesome.
i love it here. i love being a missionary! i relate my life to the fall of Adam. if Adam and Eve hadn’t partaken of the fruit, they couldn’t have known good from bad, they couldn’t have known joy from pain. sometimes we have to experience the bad to appreciate the good… now I’m not saying that any sector is bad... but, San Pedro was very difficult…however, from that sector i learned to appreciate “little” things. Now that I’m in this sector i will appreciate it a lot more. i absolutely love it and am so happy to be here. the church is true. no doubt about it. i love being able to share the happiness that we have from the gospel with others. There’s nothing greater than that! i love you all and hope you have a great week!
